Wondering whether ADHD might explain some of the challenges you've been experiencing? Our virtual ADHD assessments in Ontario offer a structured way to explore your symptoms, history and day-to-day experiences with a nurse practitioner.
We offer ADHD assessments for eligible adults and youth, including diagnostic assessment, treatment planning and follow-up care where appropriate. This is a private-pay service and is not covered by OHIP.
Could an ADHD assessment be right for you?
You don't need to be certain that you have ADHD before seeking an assessment. An assessment may be worth considering if you've been experiencing ongoing difficulties with attention, organization, time management, task initiation, impulsivity or follow-through, and you're wondering whether ADHD could be part of the picture. Your assessment will also consider your history and other possible explanations for what you're experiencing.

Why choose Fika for an ADHD assessment?
We want the assessment process to feel collaborative, respectful, and understandable. Our Nurse Practitioners take a neuroaffirming approach and consider factors such as masking, previous experiences, and the ways ADHD-related challenges can show up in everyday life. The goal is not simply to work through a checklist. It's to help you better understand your experiences and what the next steps may look like.
How long does an ADHD assessment take?
The one-to-one appointment with the Nurse Practitioner is one hour. Before that appointment, you'll complete pre-assessment measures and provide information about your history and experiences so your clinician can prepare for the assessment.
What happens during an ADHD assessment?
You'll first connect with our client care coordination team, who will ask a few questions to help determine whether a virtual assessment is appropriate for you. If you move forward, you'll complete pre-assessment measures and provide information about your medical and personal history and your experiences with attention, organization, executive functioning, and other relevant concerns. You'll then meet one-to-one with the Nurse Practitioner for the assessment and discussion of next steps.
Do I need a referral to get an ADHD assessment in Ontario?
No. A referral is not required to get started. You'll first connect with our client care coordination team, who may ask questions to determine whether a virtual ADHD assessment is appropriate for you. With your permission, assessment results can also be shared with members of your existing care team.
Is an ADHD assessment covered by insurance?
Coverage depends on your individual benefits plan. We recommend contacting your insurance provider before booking to ask whether Nurse Practitioner services are covered and whether you need pre-approval. Fika can provide predetermination documentation when requested.
What happens after the ADHD assessment?
Your Nurse Practitioner will discuss next steps with you based on your needs and preferences. This may include education about ADHD, lifestyle strategies, medication, therapy, accommodations, or other supports. A treatment plan can be developed with you, and brief confirmation documentation is included. If you need additional documentation, you can discuss this with your clinician.
What if I don't receive an ADHD diagnosis?
An assessment isn't about reaching a predetermined diagnosis. If you don't meet the criteria for ADHD, your Nurse Practitioner can discuss what the assessment suggests and whether other factors may be contributing to what you're experiencing. Depending on your needs, this may include discussing other supports, strategies, or referrals. If our pre-screening suggests that another type of assessment or support would be more appropriate, we may recommend a different service or resource.
Can I get ADHD medication without an ADHD assessment?
If you already have a formal ADHD diagnosis from a licensed Canadian physician, Nurse Practitioner, psychiatrist, or psychologist and have supporting documentation, medication management may be available. If you do not have a formal diagnosis, an assessment is required before ADHD medication can be provided through this service.
Can you provide documentation for school or workplace accommodations?
We can provide documentation and recommendations related to school or workplace accommodations. The type of documentation available can depend on your needs and should be discussed with your clinician.
